HR Manager donates £21,000 to Southampton General Hospital
Silver Lining’s HR Manager, Debbie Packer is proud to donate £21,000 to the Adult CF Unit at the Southampton General Hospital.
Debbie, 27, from Whiteley, organised a fantastic charity ball in aid of The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit at the Southampton General Hospital on 18th October at The Concorde Club, Southampton. £41,601.05 was raised in total through ticket sales, raffle, auction and a number of sponsorships and the money split between the charities.
The event was held to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis, the UK’s most common life-shortening inherited condition. The condition affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system. Sufferers usually look healthy; however they are far from that. The lungs are constantly infected causing long term damage and as a result, their lungs become less and less capable of working effectively, therefore breathing is a real struggle. Eventually oxygen is required and then a lung transplant is the only way to prolong a sufferer’s life.
There is no cure and only half of those with CF can expect to reach their 40th birthday many sufferers do not even reach the age of 20. Organiser, Debbie suffers with the condition and is only too aware of her short life expectancy as she has lost many friends all under the age of 30 to CF. Her lungs generally function between 30% and 35% and she also carries out a demanding treatment regime for hours every day just to try to prolong her life expectancy as well as numerous long hospital admissions each year. Danielle Bull, also organising the ball, has a brother who suffers from CF and spends months each year in hospital. Both girls have huge determination to raise awareness and funds to help cure this illness for future generations.
The money raised helps fund research to treat and cure CF and aim to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for sufferers. The money also provides patients with a few “extras” during long hospital stays such as TVs, videos and DVD’s, laptops, fridges and exercise equipment, as well as financing critical medical equipment for the unit if there is no or limited support available within the NHS budget.
Allan Packer, Managing Director of Silver Lining Convergence, the Event’s Platinum Sponsor who is also Debbie’s husband hosted the evening with Debbie and presented the very successful auction which in turn raised over £12,500. The Event was also sponsored by Gold Sponsors: Ultra Communications Ltd, Warrens Display Ltd, Healthcare at Home Ltd, Forest Laboratories Ltd, Silver Sponsors: Ryde Stamp Shop IOW and Silver Lining Laboratories Ltd and VIP Table Sponsors: Eclipse Ltd, Orega Ltd, OneCloud Ltd and Vibe Business Interiors Ltd.
Special thanks goes to the sponsors listed, all who donated prizes to the event, Jamie and Danielle at The Concorde Club and all the volunteer helpers who worked so hard during the evening. Sian Lloyd, BBC Weather presenter and celebrity supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust filmed a short piece for the ball.
