Connectivity vouchers return to help businesses go superfast
Back in May 2015, we reported on the UK government's new superfast connectivity scheme, whereby businesses were eligible for vouchers worth up to £3,000 towards implementing high speed business broadband with a minimum of 20Mb of bandwidth. While this scheme was a great idea and beneficial to organisations struggling to achieve adequate speeds, it was open to abuse by unscrupulous suppliers. Ultimately the scheme was scrapped, but we’ve got good news - it’s back!
The new scheme imposes the same voucher limit of £3,000, but will be more strictly managed to mitigate the risk of fraud. During the pilot phase, it will only be available in certain geographical locations, with the eventual aim of rolling out across the country.
Only SMEs are eligible for these vouchers; an SME is defined as a business with a maximum of 249 employees. This time around, the 20Mb minimum speed has been bumped up to a healthy 100Mbps, with the potential to scale to 1,000Mb without additional installation work.
As a supplier of connectivity services, we will of course be a part of this scheme. Watch this space for more information as it rolls out across the UK, and we’ll let you know how you can benefit.
